Anticipatory Action in
humanitarian response: Redefining disaster preparedness amid climate threats

El Niño:

AADSOM ramps up emergency readiness for El Niño: At-risk communities in focus

Quick Snapshot—2026

Somalia is facing a worsening drought emergency, with 6.5 million people in crisis and 2 million experiencing emergency levels of hunger. Nearly half a million children suffer from severe acute malnutrition. Water sources are drying up, livelihoods are collapsing, and displacement is surging. Urgent priorities include food assistance, safe water, health services, and nutrition support to avert a deeper catastrophe.

What is needed?

Anticipatory Action can prevent the worst. There is a short window of opportunity to intervene and prevent a large-scale humanitarian disaster – it’s not too late to take action.
